Sam Hicks

Sam Hicks age 76 of Paintsville, KY passed away on May 9, 2019 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Sam was born on February 22, 1943 in Prestonsburg, KY to Henry and Bertha Hale Hicks.

Sam is Survived by his loving wife Deloris Hicks of Paintsville, KY; one son Dr. Matthew (Brittany) Hicks of Staffordsville, KY; two brothers Joe Ed (Gypsy) Hicks of Prestonsburg, KY and Lewis (Mary) Hicks of Clay City, KY; four sisters Mary Alice Hicks, Peggy Newsome and Ruby (Larry) Slone all of Prestonsburg, KY and Emmalene (Jerry) Ackerman of Winchester, KY.

 Sam is proceeded in death by two sons Sam Jr Hicks and Michael “Joe” Hicks. One sister Gloria Hicks.

Visitation will be held on May 11, 2019 at the Paintsville Funeral Home from 1:00pm to 9:00pm. Funeral service will be held on May 12, 2019 in the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel starting at 1:00pm. There will be a visitation prior before service starting at 10:00am until time of service. Burial to follow Highland Memorial Park Cemetery at Staffordsville, KY. All arrangements are under the direction of the Paintsville Funeral Home.

Barry Tackett

Barry Tackett age 45 of Paintsville, Ky passed away on May 12, 2019.  Barry was Born on February 18, 1974 in Lexington, KY to Roger and Donna Webb Tackett. Barry proudly own and operated Tackett Tires for many of years. But his proudest achievement was leaving a testimony for the Lord when he was saved. He was a member of the Church of God.

Barry was survived by his loving parents Roger and Donna Webb Tackett both of Paintsville, KY.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday May 14, 2019 at the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday May 14, 2019 in Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel starting at 2:00 pm with burial to follow at the Tackett Cemetery at Johnson County Memorial in Staffordsville, KY.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donation be made to Community Hospice by contacting the Paintsville Funeral Home.    

 All arrangements are under the direction of the Paintsville Funeral Home.

Eugene Sturgill

Eugene Sturgill age 86 of Paintsville Ky  passed away on Tuesday May 28, 2019. He was born in Johnson County, Ky to the late Arzie and Della Jenkins Sturgill.  He was an employee of the Paintsville Funeral Home for 54 years. Gene joined the Masons in 1956 and was a 63 year member of the   Chandlersville Masonic Lodge #858, and member of the El Hasa Shrine.  On April 7, 1979 Gene joined the Barnett’s Creek United Baptist Church where he served as deacon and  remained a faithful member until the time of his death.

Gene is preceded in death by his brother Earl Sturgill and his beloved son-in-law Kelly Shepherd. Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Alberta Sturgill of Paintsville; a daughter Patricia Shepherd of Sitka; a sister Anna Ruth Witten of Sitka; two grandsons Jason (Jennifer) Shepherd and Marc (Tiffany) Shepherd of Sitka; one great grandson Brayden Kelly Shepherd and three great granddaughters Macie Ryan Shepherd, Riley Jayde Shepherd and Tinsley James Shepherd.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 29 at the Paintsville Funeral Home from 5:00pm to 10:00pm and on Thursday May 30 from 9:00am until time of service.  A Masonic service will be held at 7:00pm on Wednesday at the Paintsville Funeral Home.

 Funeral services will be held in the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday May 30 at 11:00am.  Burial will follow the service in the Johnson County Memorial Cemetery.
