Marvetta Spradin

Marvetta Brackett Spradlin age 55 of West Van Lear, KY passed away on January 6, 2019 at her home.

She is survived by her husband Larry Spradlin of West Van Lear, Ky; her mother Frances Collins of Sitka, Ky; one son Charles Adam Collier; three brother William Allen Collier and Travis Blevins both of Paintsville, Ky, Tracy Blevins of Seymour Tennessee; two sister Norma Caudill of Sitka, Ky and Eva McCarty of Paintsville, Ky; One granddaughter   Jasmine Collier; one grandson Tray Collier both of Prestonsburg, Ky.

There will be no public visitation or funeral at this time. There will be a memorial service for her on January 19, 2019 starting at 11:00am at The father’s House Of Prayer witch is located at State Hwyy 1092, Sitka, Kentucky. Arrangements are under the direction of the Paintsville Funeral Home.     

Hager Caudill

Hager Caudill, age 94, of Falcon Road in Salyersville, KY passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at his home.

He was born in 1924 to Charlie and Gracie Arms Caudill in Johnson County. He was retired from C & O Railroad and an Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the State Road United Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Hager is preceded in death by his first wife Opal Honeycutt Caudill; one daughter Connie Coppeler; one son David Caudill; two grandsons Mitchel Pachuta and Matthew Scott Conley; one granddaughter Sarah Ashley Blanton; one great grandchild; two brothers James Edward Caudill and Kirk Caudill; and two sisters Genoa Ethel Williams and Marie Rice.

Hager is survived by his wife Patsy Blanton Caudill of Salyersville; three daughters Linda (Mark) Pachuta of Indiana, Donna (Ronnie) Conley, and Dana (Bryan) Taylor all of Johnson County; one son Daryl (Valerie) Blanton of Johnson County; one son in law Dallas Coppeler of Pemberville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and two great- great grandchildren.

Friends may call on Saturday January 12, from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Sunday January 13, from 10:00am to 1:00pm at the Paintsville Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday January 13 at 1:00 pm in the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel with John Blanton and Phillip Caudill officiating. Burial will be on Monday January 15, in Luckey, Ohio at the Troy Township Cemetery 1:00 pm.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the State Road United Baptist Church by contacting the Paintsville Funeral Home.

Mary Maxine Davis Wilcox 

Mary Maxine Davis Wilcox age 89 of Stambaugh passed away on Thursday January 10, 2019 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, KY. She was born in Johnson County in 1929 to Connie and Hesta Dixon Davis.
Mary was a member of the Sitka Freewill Baptist Church, the Lawrence County Historical Society, and Eastern Star Order #202.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband Ernest Lowell Wilcox ; one sister Neva Earlene Rowland; three brothers Paul Davis, Clarence Edward Davis and Millard Albritton Davis Davis. She is survived by one son Darrell Thomas McKenzie of Stambaugh; two daughters Bonnie Lee (Michael) Anderson of Crestwood and Ruth Ann (Stanley) Harris of Flat Gap; three brothers Carroll Monroe Davis of Winchester, Charles Davis of Stambaugh and James Alvin Davis of Stambaugh; three grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Paintsville Funeral Home on Sunday January 13 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm, on Monday January 14 from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. The body will be taken to the Sitka Freewill Baptist Church on Tuesday January 15 for visitation at 11:00 am until the time of service at 12:00. Burial will follow the funeral at the Sparks Cemetery at Blaine KY.

Mary Elizabeth Witten

Mary Elizabeth Witten age 83 of Staffordsville passed away January 25, 2019. She was born January 3, 1936 in Denver, KY to Frank and Goldie Frazier Adams. Mary was a retired employee of Lowes and a member of the Little Mud Lick Church of God at Staffordsville.
In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by a granddaughter Kendall Elizabeth Witten. She is survived by her husband Francis Patrick Witten of Staffordsville; two sons Bill (Sherry ) Witten of Staffordsville and Steve (Marlitta) Witten of Denver; one brother Ralph Adams of Jamestown, KY; one sister Irene Adams of Denver, KY; three grandchildren William Patrick of Staffordsville, Kayte (Rocky) Harless of Sitka, and Hope Witten of Staffordsville; four great grandchildren; one nephew Dannie (Darla) Adams of Jamestown , KY and a host of friends.
Friends may call at the Paintsville Funeral Home on Sunday January 27, 2019 from 10:00am until 9:00pm and on Monday January 28, 2019 from 9:00am until time of service. Funeral Services will be conducted on January 28, 2019 at 2:00 pm in the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel with Tobe Wheeler officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Lakeview Memorial Cemetery.

Raymond Addison Webb (Ray-Ray)

Raymond Addison Webb (Ray-Ray)  age 37 of Paintsville passed away on Monday January 14, 2019 at UK Medical Center.  He was born in 1981 to Onda and Ramona Webb in Paintsville, KY. He was a 1999 graduate of Johnson Central High School and attended the University of Pikeville. He was a retired exterminator with Absolute Exterminating.

Raymond was preceded in death by his father Onda Webb; his paternal grandparents Jonathan (Pap) and Cava Webb and his maternal grandparents Raymond and Garcie Caudill Spradlin.

He is survived by his mother Ramona Webb of Oil Springs; his loving wife Regina Fay Webb; one son Mikey Castle-Webb that he affectionately referred to as “His Boy”; one brother Jonathan Oakley (Beth) Webb of Berea; one sister Heather Elizabeth (Tommy)
Oney of Salyersville; father in law Johnny Rigsby of Paintsville; mother in law Anita Carolyn Rigsby and companion Ray Hunter of Paintsville; brother in law Ricky Rigsby of Paintsville; sister in law Erica (Seth) Hanigan of Winchester; special nieces Olivia Webb and  August Tackett;  and special nephews Nicholas Oney, Zander Tackett, and Amos Jackson; and a host of friends and neighbors.

Friends may call at the Paintsville Funeral Home on Wednesday January 16, from 3:00pm to 9:00pm and Thursday January 17 from 10:00am to 12:00pm.  Funeral services will be held in the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday January 17  at 12:00  with Tim Salyer and Sammy Reed officiating. Burial will follow in the Baldwin Cemetery at Oil Springs.

Maudie L Burton

Maudie Francis Lemaster Burton, 88, of Lexington, formerly of Paintsville, passed away peacefully Monday, Jan. 21, surrounded by her family and loved ones after a brief illness.
Maudie was born Dec. 7, 1930 in Circleville, Ohio, daughter of the late John Riley and Tella Lemaster.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Herbert Hoover Burton; one son, John Mark Burton; two brothers, James Edward Lemaster and Jesse Albert Lemaster; and one granddaughter, Marianne Burton Tackett.
Maudie worked 31 years for Citizens National Bank and retired as Vice President of Lending. She was a graduate of Paintsville High School, Oklahoma University and Louisiana State University.
Surviving are two sons, Herbert Alan (Gail (Richey)) Burton of Navarre, Fla., and Steven Bryan (Betty (Talbot)) Burton of Louisville; one sister, Wanda Lemaster(Michael) Powers of Louisville; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Lemaster and Emogene Burton Chandler, both of Paintsville; two brothers-in-law, Worth Goble of Flat Gap and Michael Powers of Louisville; five grandchildren, Jody Burton Shepherd of Prestonsburg, John Riley Burton of Lexington, and James Foster Burton, Stephanie Standiford Burton, and Natalie Talbott Burton, all of Louisville; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 24, 5-9 p.m. at the Paintsville Funeral Home and Friday, Jan. 25, 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at the Paintsville Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Paintsville.
The service will be officiated by Reverend Seth Carter, with burial to follow in the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery at Staffordsville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made payable to the First Baptist Church in her memory, by contacting the Paintsville Funeral Home or the First Baptist Church.

Larry Thomas Justice

Larry Thomas Justice age 66 of Stambaugh passed away on Sunday January 27, 2019.  He was born in Johnson County on August 19, 1952 to Oscar and Inis McKenzie Justice.

Larry was a retired welder with Chesapeake Energy and attended the Toms Creek Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Alice Conley Justice. He is survived by two daughters Tracy (Matthew) Reed of Stambaugh and Ashley (Brendon) Rose of Campton; one sister Patricia (Eldon) Glispie of Springfield, Ohio; two granddaughters Addie Jane Rose and Callie June Rose; and a host of friends.

Friends may call at the Paintsville Funeral Home on Wednesday January 30 from 5:00pm to 9:00 pm and on Thursday January 31 from 10:00am until time of service.   Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday January 31  at 1:00 in the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel with James Kelly Caudill officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Roy Conley Family Cemetery at Stambaugh.

Emogene Puckett Burton Chandler

Emogene Puckett Burton Chandler age 96 of Paintsville, Ky passed away at her home surrounded by family friends January 31, 2019.  She was born September 17, 1922 in Johnson County, Kentucky to Lacy and Sola Boyd Puckett.

Mrs. Chandler is survived by her daughter-in-law Debra Preston Burton, one sister- in- law Anna Belle Puckett, one granddaughter Dawn (Michael) Burton Stewart, one great-granddaughter Madison Kate Stewart, two nephews Gary         (Debbie) Puckett and Mike (Dorsie) Puckett, and one niece Dianna Puckett Harmon.

She is preceded in death by her parents Lacy and Sola Boyd Puckett, husbands Clifford "Boe" Burton and Escom "Eck" Chandler,  one son Roger Lee Burton, and one brother Lacy "Buddy" Puckett.

Emogene was very active in her community.

Known to hundreds of students as Mrs. Burton, Emogene made her dream of becoming a teacher a reality by graduating from Morehead State University with an Elementary Education degree in 1975.  She was the educational coordinator of the Big Sandy Head Start Program for two years and in 1977 started working for the Paintsville Independent School System as a 2nd grade teacher.  She retired proudly in 1996 at age74 after 19 years in the classroom.  She continued to be involved in education with the Johnson County Christian School and as a substitute teacher for many years and was a Sunday School teacher for most of her life.  She was a member of the Apple Board, Kiwanis, Paintsville Alumni Association, KRTA, NEA, Women Active for Christ of Hager Hill, Senior Citizens of Paintsville, and the Big Sandy Council on Aging.  Her proudest achievement was leaving a testimony for the lord. She dedicated her life to Christ at the age of 14 at the Old Thealka Free Will Baptist Church in February of 1936.  She was a faithful member of Hager Hill Freewill Baptist Church.

          Visitation will be held on Saturday February 2, 2019 from 2:00pm to 9:00 pm at the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday February 3, 2019 at Hager Hill Freewill Baptist Church with Ronnie Spriggs officiating. She will lie in state one hour prior before service. At the family's request the burial will be private.
